CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Outline of the study
In this paper we will be looking towards the corporate social responsibilities of the Nigerian Oil Companies, that will be made of five chapters where the first part will be offering the brief introduction that will demonstrate the areas that will be observed and topics covered, the second chapter would be the literature review looking towards the number of literature gather by various authors. The third chapter will consist of the methodology that will explain the methodology used for carrying out this research where the fourth chapter will be the analysis and discussion which will focus on the areas covered in this research. Finally the fifth chapter will be the conclusion that will be concluding the results determining the limitations and recommendations that came while performing the research.
Background of the study
Situation of Nigerian Oil Industry
The corporate social responsibilities clearly reflect the crisis that occurred in the Nigerian Delta that was the outcome of the ignored states that represented the Nigerian Delta States rich with oil. This study will help us in determining the contribution of the oil companies through out these disturbances. It was observed that the Corporate Social Responsibility as the discipline emerged into the management of business have been resulting towards creating impacts in the development of societies where the companies are situated. According to Friedman, 2006; since the year 1951, when Nigeria began discovering the crude oil, they have been held accountable for ninety percent of the entire revenues of the region. The country is likely inclined towards being overly dependent on the capital-intensive sector of oil that provides around ninety five percent of the income through foreign exchange and around eighty percent of the budgetary revenues, CIA, 2010. Frynas, 1999 stated that it has replaced the cocoa beans, ground nuts and different agricultural products that were known as the basis regarding the economy of the region within the year 1950 & 1960's. Ikelegbe, 2001, The crude oil can be discovered in abundance through out the following states: Ondo, Edo, Delta, Cross Rivers, Bayelsa River but only Cross River, Delta States, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa River are generally known as the “Niger Delta States”.
