Abstract

This research proposal targets to differentiate the online marketing medium and social media marketing with respect to the relative importance that the customer lays on each media. Moreover, it attempts to find out the importance of information technology on the global brands and the benefits that they have reaped in past. Introduction

Global brands tend to overwhelm the market with innovations and ideas. They try to make more profits by achieving economies of scale and reducing their costs. Information technology has given a new horizon to the companies. The technological progress and IT are continuously increasing on a very fast pace. Companies adopt these technological advancements to become efficient and lead the market and get a competitive advantage over other competitors. The adoption of these new information technologies help in reducing the communication cost because it becomes less expensive for companies to market their product to the customer is a right direction. The technology has also given the customers to interact with companies directly and get solution of their problems. Companies have become more conscious about their products and services because a single disappointed customer can harm the company image by negative word of mouth on the internet because these conversations and ideas spread around worldwide as a viral.

The use of the internet has increased to a great deal in the last decade. People confuse the term online marketing with social media marketing; however, they are two different terms with very different meanings. For a company to do better marketing, it is very important to understand the concept and relation between them. Companies are engaged in different types of marketing techniques because of their need and desire to reach the local market which is their target audience. For that purpose, companies use online media to enter niche markets and spread awareness about their products.

The increased level of innovation has created many opportunities for global brands but these opportunities never come without challenges. The influencers of society and policy makers are identifying the effects of information technology like, intellectual property rights, confidentiality protection, and affordability of and right to use the information. It is because the cost and problems that arise by the decision taken about the use of internet are spread on the long term. Thus, it is very necessary to investigate the positive impact that the information technology has placed on top global brands. It will give the small companies an idea of how can they use similar methods and ways to reach the market and their target audience.

Companies have also adopted e-commerce as a method of doing business or expanding it to reach new markets in an easy way and thus, provide their customers with an option to save their time by communicating through e-commerce with the companies.
