Proponents of Victim

Introduction

Crime victims can seriously suffer from the criminal activities committed by individuals. These activities can lead towards experiences with a range of reactions totally depending on the nature of the crime. These may include numerous problems like anxiety, relationship problems, and many others. These problems are considered as common ones, but for often people it becomes extremely difficult to handle them. The concept of “victim rights” lies under the legal rights which are also incorporated in the domain of criminal justice. Furthermore, in the United States of America numerous laws have been introduced to cater the suffering of criminal activities, and include them in the proceedings of individual crime (Doerner & Lab, 2011). The point is that the majority of people suffer after the criminal activities at some point of their lives. Therefore, compensable acts have been introduced to help the victims of crime. The paper is based on the compensable acts and other associated elements provided to the people who suffer from crime.

Compensation of Victims

According to the legal acts, compensation of the crime victims is incorporated as a part of the criminal justice system. The aim of the compensable acts is to provide compensation to the people who suffer from criminal activates (victims). These compensations include the financial assistance, services support, physical and emotional factors. These compensations are not limited to the victims, but also their families and other dependents. As per the acts of violence, there are three categories on which victim compensation is applicable.

The primary victim: the person who is a victim of a compensable injury, which is mainly a result from direct violence or in case of helping someone.

The secondary victim: the person who is a victim of a compensable injury, a result from a direct violence, but after becoming aware of violence committed against the children or similar relations.

The family victim: the person who is/are direct family member(s) of a victim who has died due to a criminal activity (Kaptein et. al, 2004).

The compensable acts for the crime victims are incorporated in the government programs for the reimbursement of the victims of criminal activities. The types of assaults include rape, assault, homicide, burglary, etc. The Victims Compensation Assistance Program is an approach to support the crime victims and their families with financial and emotional assistance. The best part of the program is that as a victim, the person is subjected to be treated with dignity and respect when he or she is assisted via the compensable program activities (Doerner & Lab, 2011).
