Several methods and techniques have been developed to overcome the obstacles of limited stakeholder involvement which include the following:

Focus on people, they are recognized at the center of development;

Be humble, to understand that local knowledge is as valid as knowledge of an expert;

Learning to listen, to accept that stakeholders have the wisdom and they have the right to be heard;

Share control, the influence and share control with stakeholders project (this may frighten development experts who are used to any control);

Empower others, focus on capacity building of marginalized stakeholders to find their own solutions to their development problems, empower beneficiaries to become owners' active rather than passive recipients of development;

Value the process, understanding the development as a process and not only a product.
