In this study we try to explore the concept of “Drug Abuse and Addiction among Youth in the City of Newport” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “Drug Abuse and Addiction” and its relation with “Social Problems”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “Drug Abuse” and tries to gauge its effect on “Society”. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for “Drug Abuse” and tries to describe the overall effect of Different Rehabilitation Techniques For treating Drug Abuse and Addiction among youth.

According to the United States 2010 Census, population of Newport Beach is consisting of 85,186 people. The PD (Population Density) is 3587.9 people PSM (Per Square Mile) that is 1381.8 per square kilometer. Newport Beach's racial makeup is 87.3% white (74,357), 0.7% African American (616). 0.3% Native American (0.3%), 7.0% Asian (5,982), 0.1% Pacific Islander (114), 1.6% other races (1,401), and 2.9% Mixed race (2,493). Latino or Hispanic people in Newport Beach made up 7.2% of the Newport population (6,174). As per 2010 census, 99.2% of the Newport population (84,755) lives in households, 0.2% of the Newport population lives in non-institutionalized group quarters and 0.3% of the Newport population lives in institutionalized group quarters (Sim, 2006).
Concerns related to Social Issues in Newport Beach
There are some serious issues related to community and criminal justice in Newport Beach. The government is aware of this issue that's why organized a conference on the issue in which well known academicians, practitioners and policy makers participated and gave their suggestions and recommendations to resolve this issue. This issue has its roots to another big social issue of addictive drug usage such as cannabis and cocaine, especially among the youth. This drug addiction is contributing to the higher crime rates that Newport sees every year. At the national level, government of the United States has adopted strategies of aggressive law enforcement as well as policies regarding the criminal justice. These were specially aimed at the reduction and the punishment of drug abusers all over United States. Most of the offers are sentenced accordingly based on their quantity and type of the drug involved in their initial arrest. After the 9/11 2001 terrorist attacks, a new campaign was launched as well. This was when the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) issued an advertising highlighting that the sales of illicit drugs was terrorism itself. In one of the commercial, a drug user was named “Dan”. The advertisement showed that Dan was a drug user and he ended up supporting the terrorist. Even though these commercials gained a lot of public attention, they themselves were considered ineffective. This campaign was officially ended when the ONDCP started traditional campaigning where young people who were users were targeted in May 2003.
