How can the police become more “professionalized?

Police Professionalization may integrate efforts to depoliticize the police and regulation enforcement agencies, making the force democratically autonomous and responsive to community needs. In some situations, police restructure and professionalization may engage unifying diverse localized forces and/or incorporating constituents of underrepresented ethnic and political assemblies into the police force (Stanley, 1997).

Police Professionalization aspires to conceive a "more dispersed, evident, accessible, and service-oriented force which interacts without coercion and softly with its community" and sees its prime obligation as defending citizens.
