Research Method

The method that is used in this study is quantitative research method. Study number one (1991-1995) was based upon the experiences and perceptions of 155 skilled practitioners and 300 students from three Colleges of Nursing and 45 interested practitioners, who volunteered to join the research at a later date because they were experienced assessors and mentors. Many themes and categories emerged. One in particular was that of the role of the practitioner who has been charged with the responsibility of assessing student performance on practice placement. Initial interviews with 155 practitioners of varying experience as assessors were used to design a questionnaire containing both context free and context specific items. Subsequent follow-up interviews were undertaken with both students and practitioners and non-participant observation of practitioners working with students were carried out.

However, methodology is the careful reflection on theoretical and empirical evidence to understand reality, analyze its structure and internal dynamics, explore new components and new ways to understand and operate on it. The method that can be used in this study is qualitative research method. The qualitative research seeks to describe and the meanings of central themes in the life world of the subjects. Qualitative research provides the main tool for valid inferences from the universe surveyed; the procedure is established by the rules of statistics that allow elements of the population known to be an opportunity selected sample. However, there is a reasonable amount of qualitative work using non-probability sampling; here, the choice of elements of the population forming part of the sample is made based on subjective criteria of the researcher, which is not an accurate estimate whether the findings represent the universe.

Comparison Of Research Methods

Qualitative research is much more subjective than quantitative research and uses very different methods of collecting information which could be both primary and secondary. Quantitative method is used to ensure quick and faster data collection due to the time constrain of the research and also to save ...
