My father's name is Jimmy Patrianakos. The essay discusses my father's struggle throughout his life and the time it took for my father to adjust in the US when he migrated with his family from Greece back in the year 1969. When my father migrated to the US with his family, he didn't bring anything with him. They came here and stayed in a very small room with my father's aunt. They stayed in the basement of the house. My father was the eldest among his siblings. He was very mature for his age and provided great support to his father in adjusting in the new state. My father knew that the family was facing severe financial problems. Hence, he decided he will be very supportive in helping his father earn the bread and butter for the family. My father and my grandfather both started working for a Greek restaurant. He was the bus boy there. It was a menial job, but still my father did it. He also faced many language barriers (Daniels, 2002). But my father took it as a challenge. He enrolled for the night classes at NOVA to learn English. This was a good step as it helped my father gel in the new environment.
