Section one: Stood Out

The Promised Land is changing. The suburb part of America is radically attracting residents from different cultures, races, religions, and languages. The areas that stand out for me are that all schools regardless of geographic locations are counterfeiting related problems. My long-standing career at Elk Grove Unified School District (southern side of Sacramento) experiences changes in the distortion between Caucasians and African Americans. The problems in Fairfax County also include performance gap, cultural diversity, poverty, language barriers, and immigration (Wells & Crain, 1997).

This issue has been highlighted in the article (dated: Friday, June 29, 2007; 3:55 am) of The Washington Post. It talks about the re-examination of racial integration in schools. The Chapter 3 of this book also enlightened about key concepts such as reverse discrimination and social engineering on page 69 that are highly increasing in the development of an excellent suburban school system (Duke, 2005).

I have always witnessed the minority achievement gap in various methods of suburban school district during my entire stay. No significant efforts are made to promote racial isolation and racial diversity in the current socio-political and legal situation of our country (Browne, 2002). There different opportunity zones for us, but we have never initiated steps to integrate and interact schools across district boundaries. My focus is always towards completion of assigned academic courses within prescribed credit hours.

Section two: Making Connections

I came across several insights and learning outcomes for myself while reading this book, and particularly Chapter 3.
