Introduction

History of the state prison

The state prison referred to be as on the basis of 17th and 18th century that known as the era of enlightenment. The English correctional provision commonly called it a jail where they accommodate everyone including women, children, mentally ill, and criminals. The jail maintained by the local authorities, it builds with an intention to keep in custody and hold the culprit for a court hearing (West, 2009).

All the culprits, criminals kept in the department of correction. The felons recruited include the people those who are on probation, as well as those on parole, encompassing young person who are on work release program, in a halfway house facilities, group homes, training schools, or from a particular facility. The state is the one who functions and run the imprisonment facilities holding pretrial prisoners in minor population and promotes “Community Correction Act”.

History of federal prison

Federal prison often referred to as the federal Bureau of prison (FBP). The history of federal prison describes that the prison of today is totally a security prison, and confined to individuals who found out to be guilty of a federal felony, for instance drug smuggling from corner to corner state lines or non-payment of taxes. Department of justice operates and run these prisons, and layers are present within the system of correctional institutions for gender separation and condemnation categorization. Male prisoners who need only minimum security tend to have a set up in the camps, and those who transferred back into their societies after spending the sentenced period they be set up in a halfway house.

The penitentiary purpose was secular and spiritual; punishment was no longer physical, but humane. Living conditions were cleaner, healthier and body contamination avoided by separating inmates from each other as much as possible preferably in isolation and to create habits by enforcing strict rules. Prisoners work at productive labor, no sitting around as they did in old jails and prisons. (Vitelli, 1993).
