Introduction

Management of work is taking place since hundreds of years. Ideas of management have found to be as old as 1700. The most noteworthy improvement in management took place in 20th century. The managerial practices that are taking place owe to the managerial theorists of this century. The improvement in management system is the blessings of these theorists. The improved management conducts best system of business nowadays.

Scientific Management

According to Henry Ford, the scientific method relies on three fundamentals, the continuous development of product in an orderly and planned manner through a shop; it is the duty of the owner to not to leave the delivery on workman; an investigation of work operations into its further parts. An American industrial engineer Friedrich W. Taylor (1856-1915) enunciated a scientific approach towards these fundamental principles of work management. This proved to be next logical step in the business of work. After great efforts of Taylor, he initiated a new disciple of work. This new discipline was later on called, “Industrial Engineering” or “Scientific Management”. In this discipline, managerial duties, i.e. planning and training of workers come at the primary position of in the process of work productivity.

The applications of the scientific management require a high level of control of managers over employees or workers. This scientific method increases the level of managerial works than the labors. This minimized the internal disputes between managers and workers. The term “Scientific Management” and the “Taylorism” are as synonyms. According to another view the Taylorism consider to be the first form of scientific management. “Taylorism” became popular in 1930s. The term “scientific management” was stopping being used, for elaborating management theories by the late 1960s.

The theorists of scientific management estimated that the workers should work according to their desire they should inculcate minimum efforts produce effective work product and in turn gain more money. Their system of work management had no sympathies for human feelings and emotions. They paid no heed if the worker is not satisfied by the job.

One of the leading personalities in the Business management is Frederick Winslow Taylor. He and his coworkers were the first people to work on the scientific management movement. They studied for a long time, and analyzed how the work is under scientific management, and they analyzed the effectiveness of this scientific management on the work productivity. According to Taylor, the working of the people was efficient enough if by enhancing the way of work, rather than making people do more work with stress.

Taylor published “the Principles of Scientific Management” in 1909. In his publication, he described that by simplifying the jobs and makes them stress free, the productiveness of work increases.
