Sufferers of chronic disease are always concerned about the quality of their life and to be more specific quality of social life. It becomes even more significant to the patient when no cure of the disease is available and reliance on day to day management is the available option. Diabetes is such a disease with no cure but control and that control too lies in patient's hands. The overall success of management in diabetes can only be brought about by strict compliance of the patient on a number of parameters discussed later in the paper thus resulting in sustained and noticeable positive change in the social life.
Introduction
Diabetes is a disease of modern age which can be managed with diet control, exercise and medicines. Till to date no cure of diabetes has been discovered by the pharmaceutical scientists and all such patients have to live with this disease. As long as the patient learns to manage the disease with good compliance, he or she is likely to lead a virtual normal life. Functions of almost each and every organ of the body get deteriorated with the development of Diabetes. Like hypertension diabetes is also a silent killer since the person suffering from diabetes would not know in the early stages that he or she is diabetic unless blood sugar level is checked and found consistently on the higher side. According to WHO, an estimated 285 million people (6.4% of the world's adult population) were diagnosed as diabetics in 2010. Diabetes disturbs the quality of life of patients with profound effects on social life which is the domain of discussion of this research paper. We shall look into it in detail with the help of research carried out so far by addressing different aspects associated with it such as changes which occurred in the past, expected changes in the future and overall role of the community in making these happen.

All the time they need to keep in mind that they are not normal now and they have to learn to manage the disease for the rest of their life. Before undertaking any activity the disease tries to get on their nerves. They need to deal with diabetes almost once every fifteen minutes. They are required to stop as to what they are doing currently, what they are thinking or feeling, what and when they last ate, what they will be doing next, whether to get blood sugar test done or not and so on and so forth.
Either based upon the results of the test or gut feeling about the blood sugar level diabetics have to plan and decide about their next ...
