Abstract

Sleep plays a vital role in one's life. When a person face sleep disturbances; it is difficult for them to lead their daily routine life. In cognitive psychology, there are many types of sleep disorders. Here were focusing on parasomnia; it includes the disorder of sleepwalking. This paper talks about sleepwalking disorder. First of all normal sleep and disturb sleep came under focus of attention. Moving further there are certain types of sleep disorders that came under consideration. Besides this paper focuses on causes and symptoms of sleepwalking disorder. This disorder is common among children; especially boys children. It develops with the patents history and from childhood reoccurrence can takes place in adulthood. It was identified the reasons behind the sleepwalking disorder is common in children than in adults. The problems that parents are facing at the moment regarding sleepwalking disorder in children. It also focuses on treatment and prevention of the disorder. Medication is also used for the treatment to overcome sleepwalking disorder. There are therapies such as a relaxation technique, hypnosis and so on so forth.

Introduction

Normal sleep is important for brain functioning. When there is loss of sleep this result in mood fluctuations, cognitive impairment and hormonal problems to occur. Usually people sleep for 7 to 8 hours and they find 6 hours sleep as incomplete. There are two types of sleep one is quiet sleep and another are rapid eye movement. Therefore, Quiet sleep is Non- Rem. The movement of an Eye in rapid sleep consists of sleep disorders (Nutt, D. 2008). There are four types of sleep disorders. Insomnia includes difficulty in maintaining consciousness. Sleep more than usual time. Circadian sleep-wake time disorders means that sleep disturbances occur during the day and night time. Parasomnias includes motor activity occurs during sleep. In insomnia, the person has the ability to sleep at continues level. Insomnia occurs for few nights. It can be occurred due to shift work, anxiety, stress and travel. Besides this, another type of disorder is excessive day time sleeping is more complaints found in the clinics. Day time patients sleep and at night they are facing the issues. Circadian Sleep-Wake Rhythm Disorder is characterized by a group of people. This problem occurs in shift work also called jet lag. Rotating work shifts disturbs the routine of an individual and individual has to face this sleep disturbance issues. Traveling such as travel for 10-14 days leads towards sleep disturbances. In the category of Parasomnias disorder; sleepwalking takes place. It is common in children than in adults. It is related with sleepwalking at night person is unconscious and do not remember anything when he/she wakes up in the morning (Lee, E).
