Proximity

Proximity is the sense or feeling of being near or next to someone. Attraction develops after spending a certain period of time with someone and this nearness and contact provides an easy way to start a relationship (Perlman, 2007, p.7-18).

Association

 Association is a relation or a mental connection between the feelings, ideas, sensations or thoughts. It may also exist between the individuals if they share a same purpose like a sport a similar hobby (Perlman, 2007, p.7-18).

Similarity

It is a type of groping rule that human follows in their effort to develop sense for their initial sensations and for the people in their surroundings. Attraction is positively correlated to the agreement of similarity between two individuals (Levine, 2006, p. 465-486).

Reciprocity

We tend to like people who like us back and this develops a feeling of being likeable. Individuals report higher level of attraction towards a person who responds them with positive and likeable actions (Perlman, 2007, p.7-18).

Social Skills & Education

We tend to find ourselves more comfortable with people who share similar socializing skills and same educational backgrounds (Perlman, 2007, p.7-18).

People like to get into a relationship with one who is similar to them because it makes it easier for them to share their life with them. People report greater value of attraction with those of similar culture, backgrounds and ethnicity because they follow the same set of practices in their lives (Perlman, 2007, p.7-18).
