This journal assignment explores poverty in the USA through three different perspectives, which include two videos and an article about “poverty in the united states.” First video is by the name of “hear our voices - the poor on poverty” and the other is “the market maker.” The major points covered in this paper include life of the poor people, their day-to-day activities, their relationships, their prospects, their hopes and dreams, and some solutions to reduce their poverty. The paper also discusses how economic systems can change in societies and what people require to do for the same. Moreover, the assignment presents the economic problems of Ethiopia, a viable option to overcome poverty, difference between the situation of Ethiopia and that described in the “voices of the poor”, obstacles that “Gabre-Madhin faced and what are the chances that she will succeed? Ultimately, these situations are then compared with the cultural poverty in the USA.

As demonstrated in the first video, poor people living in rural areas expressed that their lives are worthless, they go from one day to the next, always searching for food. Their emotions are often filled with sadness. There is no peace in their lives. One of the women uttered that she feel sad when someone walks here and sees how low standard lives they are living. She further said it seems as if we didn't exist. The doctor prescribes and they don't have money to but it, the child remains sick for the whole night and his parents just watch child dying and they don't to do anything about it. The world looks very different when viewed through the eyes of the poor person. Labors working in those areas communicated they don't get the right that they deserve and their boss takes so much works, but, doesn't pay them. One of the work of the workers said he can hardly feed himself, and how can he support his family. He further uttered inflation is so high now. In a number of developing and poor countries, such as India, Brazil, Bosnia, and Uganda, people speak in different languages, but often about the same things that include powerlessness, the inability to participate in making decisions that affects their lives.
