Poverty

Introduction

According to the Guardian, in coming years majority of the Americans would be enforced into poverty, though America has haul itself from adverse recession after the Second world war. Indiana University has realized a study concerning poverty in United States in which they have highlighted that 27% of the Americans are living below the poverty line, this is from the time when American suffered Great Recession that has drive 10 million people in poverty.

Furthermore, it is expected that this figure would be increasing and the reason given by Indiana University is that though the recession has ended but impact would still be on the budget, employment which will ultimately result in rise in poverty. In this research paper, the focus would be on the reasons for increasing Poverty rate i.e. what factor contributes towards the poverty.

Thesis statement

It is consider that poverty has been increased due to great Recession while some studies state that the main reason for this poverty rate is due to Low paid work, Worklessness, high birth rate and lack of education.

Literature Review

There are many reasons why people cannot meet their basic needs. These are due to political, economic, social and structural factors. This ultimately results in Poverty.

Poverty

Poverty refers to a condition in which a person or community lacks with respect of financial resources i.e. a country or community lacks in material possessions or money. Poverty has been divided into two different categories which are absolute poverty and extreme poverty (Pogge, 2012).

Absolute poverty

Absolute poverty refers to a situation refers to a situation in which people do not have the basic necessities that would ensure their survival. For example, they may suffer from starvation, but this does not mean that they do not have water, they do have but in worse condition, they do have house but not in proper condition, they have sufficient clothes or drugs and these people struggle hard in order to stay alive. This is very common, particularly in developing countries.

United Nations leads to stress much on the elimination of absolute poverty. The main Millennium goal of United Nations was to eradicate absolute poverty and hunger. This objective of absolute poverty eradication has been reflected when United Nation stated that they need to reduce portion of people that are living on less than a dollar a day. Therefore, member of EU are generally in living in Relative poverty (Beaudoin, 2012).

Relative Poverty

Relative poverty is a situation where individual income and lifestyle are below the general living standard of the region or country. These people struggle a lot in order to live according to the living standard of the country i.e. the normal life. Due to this, these people also do not participate much in the in economic, social and cultural activities.
