Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to make an analysis on the advancements in the criminology specially the terrorism. This paper makes an analysis on the advancements in the field of terrorism and the concept of new postmodern forms of terrorism. The term terrorism is defined as any private action which is made for the purpose of intimidating others in order to achieve some political and ideological goals. Terrorism is considered to be the important threat to contemporary democracies. However, the definition and the concept of the terrorism have been changed from the preceding decade. Modern era is the era of technology. Technology has taken place in each and every aspect of life. It is easily observed that each and every field of life whether it is business, home chores or any political issues, is adopting technology and innovations. Thus just like the other fields, terrorism has also incorporated the essence of technology in it. This paper makes an analysis of the modern concept and forms of terrorism by identifying the history of terrorism.

Discussion

Globalization has completely modified the world and our daily lives. Through globalization, the world has become increasingly connected. Internet is supposed to be the most effective tool that has increased the interconnectedness (Bucchi, 2002). The technology and internet has also made changes in the functions of terrorism. Terrorists are availing the same benefits from the use of internet in order to abide the law. Terrorists are making full use of the internet and other technologies in order to avail the criminal benefits. The cyber crimes are the most effective and common mode of terrorism through the use of technologies. There are different terrorists operating not only one but multiple websites.

Terrorist Definition and History

According to McLaughlin [2007], Terrorism is an essentially premeditated political act. Its intention is to inflict serious injury on civilian population, and to influence government policy by creating atmosphere of fear/threat, generally for political, religious or ideological cause. Honderich [2002] suggests Terrorism can be used by a variety of political, military and law enforcement actors to effect, deter or undermine political change. States, governments and sub-state groupings of all ideological configurations are capable of resorting to 'terror' in pursuit of socio-political/military objectives. However, we need a co-extensive definition of terrorism which recognises that terrorism is regular feature of most modern conflicts. Terrorism can be used by a variety of political, military and law enforcement actors to effect, deter or undermine political change (Walsh, 2003). States, governments and sub-state groupings of all ideological configurations are capable of resorting to 'terror' in pursuit of socio-political/military objectives. Terrorism is one of the most important political phenomena of our time. It shapes policy in matters of defense, foreign relations, development aid, and strategies designed to fight or prevent terrorism which impact millions of lives across the globe.
