Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Treatment is more effective with Psychotherapy than with Anti-Psychotic Drugs
The article, which I have chosen is “Evaluation of the Efficacy of Pharmacotherapy and Psychotherapy in Treatment of Combat-Related Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: A Meta-Analytic Review of Outcome Studies”. This is a peer-reviewed article, got published in 2009, under the names of Cheryl L. Stewart and Thomas, A. Worbel. The article is principally the meta-analysis, which is designed to study the effectiveness of the cure associated with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in a military medicine. The author Worbel, T. A. is highly qualified scholar, which extensive research on psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy; whereas, Stewart, C. L. is a Bachelor of Science, and has comprehensive study over combat-related issues. The report was funded and conducted under the supervision of United States military and was published by “Association of Military Surgeons of the United States” (Worbel, T. A, & Stewart, C. L. 2009).
Thus, it can be trusted that there would be no biasness of any data, analysis or representation in the report. However, consider the content; there are various measures that are needed to be taken under consideration to critically analyze this article.
Background Study
There are various studies being conducted upon psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, nevertheless, this research is a unique representation of incorporation of all these aspects into one enrich report. There are various aspects covered in this article, and so as it is quite motivating to consider this particular research to incorporate in my project.
Research Question
The research question generated was as to measure the relation between pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy in context to PTSD. It states “whether trends in the standardized PTSD measures over time tend to vary significantly between pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy studies” (Worbel, T. A, & Stewart, C. L. 2009). The question is quite relevant in context to the topic, which is proposed for this article. There is clarity in the question, but it is expected there must be a correlation with the between the study and military issues.
Outcomes Generated
The study is conducted in critically deep manner and outcomes generated are all quantitative, which are easily understandable for a common reader, as well as for professional. Despite of it, they are also can be used in graphical representation easily. Both authors have constructed comprehensive arguments with respect to their findings, and the outcomes are captivating.
