Abstract

This paper provides a detailed explanation on the new file of psychology that is “Positive Psychology”. The paper discusses the newly developed branch of psychology, which aims to improve the metal functioning of individuals above that of common and normal mental health. It also gives adequate information about the aims and objectives of positive psychology and also addresses the benefits that are attained by adopting the unique strategies and techniques included in positive psychology. The paper also tends to compare master resilience competencies with the core competencies of positive psychology. It also identifies the major differences between these two approaches and outlines the factors that make the difference in both of these approaches quite evident. In the paper the main area of focus is mainly on various important factors for example, self-awareness self regulation, optimism, mental agility, character strengths and connection. Self awareness refers to the process of identifying one's emotions, thoughts, behaviors and their patterns in which each of them are counterproductive. It also highlights the core competencies of positive psychology for example an individual's courage, humanity, temperance, transcendence, justice, wisdom and knowledge. It is believed that if an individual works on these traits and improves them with the passage of time; it is very likely to result in increased happiness in life.

The main aim of this field is to investigate factors that make an individual happy and that may lead in a satisfying and fulfilling life (Lykken & Tellegen, 1996). Since it belongs to the field of inquiry, its main purpose is to foster and understand the factors and features that allow communities, societies and individuals to flourish. In other words it is a scientific study of factors that make life worth living. It also triggers psychological practice and science to maintain a balance in its concern towards an individual's strengths and weaknesses. It also emphasizes on building the best things in life while repairing the worst and allowing an individual to live a fulfilling life with healing pathology.

In order to achieve efficient results of positive psychology, there are different competencies that are to be focused for example master resilience competencies and core competencies.

Master Resilience Competencies

There are many researches that have been carried out on resilience since the 1970's and it has been confirmed that there are various aspects involved in resilience that can be taught. The term resilience itself has several definitions; however the one that is related to positive psychology refers to the set of strategies and processes that assure good outcomes even in the presence of serious threats.
