Skill 1- Self Awareness

As an assistant manager in one of the leading global food franchises- Dominos Pizza, I actively participate with my team members to drive best practices that are compliant to the policies highlighted by the senior management and the organization's code of practice. Two-way communication, to allow for valuable feedback concerning my performance also needed to be integrated into the process structure. To achieve this I initiated the use of Activity Based Scorecards as a tool to help my team members maintain a record of the most productive processes and tactics and to ensure adherence to the guidelines provided. The Health and Safety guidelines are incorporated in this scorecard and are required to be filled in by all employees at their respective shift ends. The scorecard incorporated the daily tasks and activities in light of the guidelines provided while also enlisting feedback and improvement related questions. This allows me to track and monitor the performance, processes and also to attain valuable feedback from my team to identify my areas of improvement.

As the process structure involves a host of critical parameters, individuals involved in production are particularly prone to high frustration levels and errors during peak hours. This situation is further aggravated by practical limitations. The key to smooth operations is therefore to allow these individuals to identify strengths and weaknesses -factors that are not identified by assistant or restaurant manager on the floor.

Each employee is also required to rate on the performance of the managerial staff on a likert scale ranging from 1-5. '1' represents the lowest and '5' represents the highest score. Questions such as “How did I do?”, “Are you satisfied with the managerial support provided?” are asked. Through this method my team and I were able to reduce the duplication of efforts saving valuable resources and time. The employees in turn established a feeling of commitment and worthiness by contributing to the organization. For me, as an Assistant Manager who has to cater to a variety of tasks and responsibilities, the process enabled the following accomplishments:

Identify my strengths and weaknesses through the active feedback mechanism incorporated in these scorecards

Attain valuable knowledge on how to fill the gaps between my personal qualification, experience and team expectations

Skill 2- Problem Solving & Numeracy

Being an assistant manager at Domino's Pizza Store, timely execution of tasks is pertinent for the business. As a supervisory support and monitoring body I have to estimate and monitor the time required to prepare the ordered food based on the standards set by the organization. In peak hours, I have to directly apply my numeracy skills to calculate the order processing time so that customer dissatisfaction is avoided.

Ensuring food safety through adequate pest control emerges as a major problem for restaurants owing to the continuous food processing and cooking procedures involved in our kitchens.
