Critical Thinking and Analysis

Competency standards for advanced nursing practices were basically formulated by National Nursing Organization in 1997 and after this nursing specialist organizations initiated to develop their competency standards by adopting the framework for the entry level standards, which served as the foundation of the development of specialist standards. The competency standards were actually the combination of values, attitudes, skills, knowledge and abilities that underpin the effective performance in the nursing role.

Global Context

It has been witnessed that changes in health delivery and professional roles are reflective of political and social economic issues and trends. For instance, with the ever increasing competition witnessed in the global market, the multi skilling have impacted on health delivery in a way that it placed impact on cost effectiveness and also being able to work across different disciplinary boundaries. Similarly, trends also not remain consistent and steady because decentralization and devolution in terms of tightening the rules and regulations, which influence the health services and health professionals by effecting their role.

Therefore, considering the nursing competency domain advances in communication technology from the nursing perspective are constantly challenged by the new information that required solving both problems, that is, the current problems and also to prepare solutions for competent future practices.

Professional Practice

Professional practices in the nursing competency domain associated with ethical and legal responsibilities that require demonstration of a satisfactory knowledge base and also accountability for practice in terms of functions as per the legislation that affecting health and nursing care.

As per the literature, practices that are in accordance with legislation affecting nursing practices and health care are complied with common law and relevant legislation. Therefore, in doing this, nursing practices are highlighted within the requirements of common law and relevant actions demonstrated awareness of legal implications of nursing practices for better compliance.

Another competency of nursing domain is to practice and perform duties within ethical and professional framework. As per this competency, personal attitudes and values are not imposed on others and also the nurses seek assistance to resolve different problems based on moral conflict. At last, the competency standards collaborate with interdisciplinary health care team to enhance and provide comprehensive nursing care throughout the domain. Thus, the nursing team involve in recognizing the impact and ever changing role of the society to demonstrate the primary health care model.

Developing Competence in Nursing Practice

Across the various disciplines, competence in nursing mainly refers to be able to demonstrate that values, skills and knowledge learned by the individual can be integrated into practice or not. Therefore, as per personal experience competence model that based on education and evaluation has the maximum benefit because this model consist of two different components.
