I am associated with HornAfric Community group, where I am working as a community teacher of English to African children belonging to the age bracket of 10 to 20. I am working for social community project for the locals. The basic idea of the developmental plan of this community is to educate African children about their rights and responsibilities and encourage the processes of communication and dialogue between the service provides and other communities. This project will enable the local to represent themselves to the outside world. This helps in establishing the ways through which the community unity and good citizenship could be improved. The process of empowerment is influenced though this program which will assist in cultural and social representation of the community (Bolton, 2005, pp. 14-21). The main aim of the community is to bring development in the African communities specially the Somali communities so that their standard of lives can be improved. Apart from English language, I also provide arts lessons to help them understand the cultures of HornAafric communities. The facility has now more than 70 children registered and about 50 children and 20 adults attend the centre regularly every week.
I give utmost priority to my students, and I am aware of this fact that everyone is not proficient in English Language and their communication skills are not equally good, so I have to prepare my lecture in such a way that addresses most of their issues, and they are able to understand the concept in a better way. Even then I encourage them to ask me questions on whatever problems they have and to clear all their problems and worries. It will make them work more and increase their motivation for learning. As a teacher, I will provide them guidance in the problems they face. I will try to transfer my complete knowledge to them, so I can serve them in a better way. This portfolio will include my teaching philosophy, my views on education and also my teaching style.
My Teaching Philosophy
Becoming a teacher was always my dream as I love to provide mentoring and guidance to others. It gives me personal satisfaction, when I help others and solve their problems. This aim led to my interest in the role of teaching. Moreover, a teacher plays a very pivotal role in the development of society. Society can learn and develop from the experiences of a teacher. As a teacher, I try to fulfil my goals and aspirations. I am open to learning and creative suggestions as a teacher. I also involve myself in educational and social activities that not only develop students as individuals, but also serve the society (Schön, 1983, pp. 108-119).
