Populations with Heart Disease

Introduction

Heart disease is usually explained as a wide spectrum of problems associated with heart and circulatory system. It is important to know that heart problems cause more than 80 million people in the United States to be affected (Phibbs, 2007). In addition, American Heart Association also reveals that approximately one-third of 80 million people die with different heart problems. Researchers believe that heart disease is a universal problem that can be seen as a growing epidemic where developing nations share 60% burden of this problem (Shepard, 2010). Another interesting thing to know is that women and aging population mainly suffer with heart problems as the disease prevalence is higher in this group of society. Further, rate of death is also higher in women and aging population as they remain unable to understand the threat raised by their heart diseases due to some misconceptions (Phibbs, 2007).

Similarly, it is equally important to realize that intervention of not only nursing but also by the different stakeholders of the society will bring a productive outcome for the control of disease in old-age population of the Waukesha County (Waukesha County Health Department, 2012). Another noticeable part of the problem is deficiency of communication in nursing that creates difficulties in managing health care activities aimed for the care of people affected with heart problems. This paper focuses on the heart problems found in the community of Waukesha county of Wisconsin. It is also essential to discuss that old-age group or aging population has been identified as client group for this assignment as this group of population has higher risk for heart problems. The paper also aims to give overview of the heart diseases, identify health needs found in the Waukesha community, prevention plan for the community and solution to nursing problems associated with the diseases.
