Introduction

Water is the major resource for people and the environment. Approximately 70% of the Earth surface is covered by water. We are continuously wasting, polluting the available fresh water not realizing its importance. The availability of fresh water should be given importance, as one of every six person is access to clean and pure water. Water pollution is an uprising issue prevailing in this 21st century. Water pollution is affecting the drinking water, rivers, lakes and oceans. This issue is prevailing worldwide. Water pollution is harming the environment and human health. The sources for water pollution vary region to region. Water pollution can come from a single source and can be caused by a number of sources. The affect of pollution vary in nature. Sometimes it can affect the area miles & miles away from the source. There are various types of water pollution i.e. damage to surface water, oxygen depleting, damage via chemicals, microbiological, groundwater and suspended matter. The causes of water pollution vary from each other. Common causes of water pollution are agriculture runoff due to highly chemicals, Strom off water with oil and petroleum wastes, leaking of sewer lines containing contaminated solvents, harmful mining waste, and animal waste in the water, dumping of industrial waste into the water, fossil fuels and foundries are few common yet quite hazardous causes of water pollution these days (fao, 2012).

Current Environmental issues & Solutions

The world is already fighting with the greenhouse gases reaching dangerous level. This environmental issue is so intense that the world is already at risk. The emission of dangerous carbon emission is growing very fast and these prevailing changes in the climate are a hazard to water and water pollution. Steps should be taken now to protect the environment from this disaster as the people who are going to be affected with this will be unprecedented. Scarcity of water is the prevailing issue if this century. The major reasons behind the scarcity are the dry climate condition and too many users of water. According to an estimate almost more than one million people die every year due to the water borne disease. Currently the most populated country China is facing the unavailability and access to fresh water where approximately more 25% have no access to safe and clean water. The supply of water in the areas facing scarcity can be enhanced by withdrawing ground water, more water conservation than waste, preparation of dams and reservoirs and adequate use of natural hydrologic cycle. The sustainability of water can be enhanced by lowering the water wastes, implementing activities to protect forests and aquifers and other water release. Water waste can be reducing to a prominent level if plan to the irrigation system are improve, the water is efficiently collected and reserved. The usage is minimized to the minimum possible level.
