Introduction

The notion of international stability is rooted primarily to the field of political science. As a matter of fact, it indicates that the international systems are more likely to remain in their incumbent situations or in status quo, with a single state, considered as hegemonic over the world power. This further infers that the existence of hegemonic power over the non-hegemonic curtails the overall stability of the international system. In fact, the international powers utilized its hegemony through different channels ranging from diplomacy, persuasion or through coercion and thus ends up having preponderance of power. This means that the international stability of state being single handedly dominates as well as rules the international arrangements.

The East Asian region is highly unstable due to many a reasons. In contrasts to the theories of realists, who points out that multi-level inclination makes East Asian region prone to rivalry, the overemphasis of United States over this regions offset any sort of multi-polarity. The very logic of international stability lies behind the belief that values incorporated in regional powers of actors, however; the ultimate responsibility falls on these players, i.e. China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan etc., to better manage the sources of conflict which ultimately leads to proper world order, thus makes East Asian regions a stable and prosper region.

Discussion

Stability is one of the major discussed topics in the study of political science and international relations. However, there are three major schools of thought that cater this particular domain such as, realism, liberalism and that of constructurlism. Each of these theories consider different forces and factors that primarily shapes the patterns, behavior and conditions that have due impact over the notion of international stability and peace.

Realism

The realist approach considers the international stability as operated under the umbrella of power. This perspective sheds light over the notion of environmental chaos, where there is not supreme authority to appeal, if in any case their sovereign interests are threatened. Under this guise, it is pertinent for states to become sensitive as well as fragile at the time of distribution of power specifically that of military power. This approach further entails that international forces must not lose the sight of this basic reality and must not fall in the brown study that the international law, world wide public opinions, goodwill and other international organizations can compensate the lack of power or the allocation of power in the overall international system. Under the realist point of view, the logic of international stability hovers around a set of three dimensions. The first one is the allocation of capabilities in the international system in congruence with the several players of system. The second is related to the miscalculation form the side of international leaders while gauging the relationships of power. Third and last is pertaining to the notion of militarily technology and the geostrategic power, which favors defense more than the notion of offence.
