The underdeveloped country, Nigeria is extremely well known for measuring extreme and numerous healthy countenances which has adversely affected the people of the country. Globally, the main issue of polio has drastically changed the life of children, infants especially in Nigeria (Offit & Moser, 2011). In Northern regions of Nigeria, several cases of polio have been reported. The proposed vaccination program for the eradication and prevention of polio outbreak is an initiative that aims to bring about a positive change in some of the most affected regions of Nigeria. To eradicate the polio issue in the northern region of Nigeria, the public health workers need to focus some strategies that help them to eradicate this issue in a systematic process (Offit & Bell, 2003). Public health policies must effectual for them because these developed theories, concepts or ideologies have emerging approaches that help the public health workers to work against this serious health issue.
Discussion
The intervention plan wants to strengthen the network of public health care, in order to consolidate the Nigerian northern regions and advance the prospect of recovery. The entire program will be established on the culture of preventing polio and it will mainly involve vaccination for the general populace and curative treatment for the affected.
Strengths of the Proposed Vaccination Program
There are myriad benefits of vaccination programs for preventing polio. Vaccines are the most effective means of protection and insurance against this disease (Offit & Bell, 2003). Even when immunity is not absolute, who is vaccinated has greater resilience in the event of illness. Understandably, it is not appropriate to get vaccinated just once in order to be properly protected - you need to receive multiple doses of the vaccine for it to be effective. Sometimes it is also necessary to boost doses, in some cases throughout life (Offit & Bell, 2003). The proposed polio eradication and prevention program focuses on providing vaccinations to the population of Nigeria which in addition to personal protection also brings benefits to the whole community, because when most of the population is vaccinated to stop transmission of the disease.
Vaccination programs have proved to be highly effective around the world when it comes to the prevention of the outbreak of polio. When the Global Eradication Initiative was launched in 1988, more than 500,000 cases were occurring around the world each year (Offit & Moser, 2011). The outbreak of Polio has had numerous negative effects on the human race which are social as well as economic.
