ABSTRACT

This research discusses the concept of racial profiling strongly practiced in USA. This issue of racial profiling has been increasingly gaining attention of researchers. The reserah aims to anlayse the impact of racial profiling observed during police stopping on the overall a society. This research specifically focuses on racial profiling practiced during police stopping. The relationships between citizens and police officers are made up of physical and emotional components. People create their own perceptions depending on their personal contact and personal experiences with police officers or they do so based on what they observed or hear. Very often people tend to believe and adopt the opinions and attitude of their surroundings. Attitudes and beliefs differ only if the individuals have encountered a different experience with the police. Using questionnaire survey, the research highlights the perception of people about the police officers and criminal justice system.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Research Background

In USA, a Black-American is seven times more likely to be stopped by a police officer in the city as compared a white resident driver, showing an analysis of 46,000 according to the research Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Likewise, according to their survey based on the number of licensing drivers by race, the number of pulling over of Hispanics' by the country's police is five times higher than the White citizen of the country.

It was also analyzed that the rate of searching the black people was twice as greater as compared to the white people, but unfortunately these searches have not lead to reduce the rate of stolen property, drug intake, and seizing weapons. According to their review, it was also highlighted that the disparity has expanded all over the country. Incidents and findings like these have put the concern of racial profiling in the limelight.

The racial profiling concern has been significantly emerging and spreading throughout the country. The authorities are concerned about to eliminate the biased behaviors in term of ethnic concerns and race. There are number of riots and disparities rising due to the discriminating behavior of police in term of police stopping and searching, annoying and frustrating the minority groups.
