Pablo Neruda is one of the most celebrated poets who wrote this poem in the 20th century. Translated into English from Spanish, these two poems are still popular poems despite the elapse of about a century because of the way they handle the theme of love. With the employment of many literary techniques, the two poems bring out different aspects surrounding love. They are not long yet comprehensive in the theme that they want to convey while each deals with a different aspect of love in its own unique manner.

Theme

The two poems deal with the theme of love in a varying manner. 'If you forget me', one of the most famous poems of Pablo Neruda has the central theme of passionate love and scarification. The post is telling his beloved of the passion with which he loves her and explains her desire for her. He is telling her that whatever he does, sees and feels, it urges in him the desire to be with her. After telling her about his feelings, he states about the feeling of sadness and remorse that he might feel if she will go from his life and stop loving him. He states that it will be wrong if his beloved feels that he will forget her with the passage of time and with new events in life. The day she leaves him will be the last he will be breathing. And if the beloved also loves him the way he does her, then he says that the two will live and die in each other's arms.
