The article was aimed to answer the following question:
How the nursing rounds effect the patients' use of call light and how it affects the safety and satisfaction of the patients?
Problem
The problem highlighted in the article is that the patients' use of call lights for non medical purposes increases the workload of the nurses and they are not able to attend to every patient in a proper manner. This also causes a decline in the patients' satisfaction.
Purpose
The purpose of this article was to determine the reasons and the frequency of the patients' use of call light and the effect of scheduled rounding of either one-hour interval or two-hour interval on the satisfaction level and safety of the patients. The other purpose of this study was to provide assistance to the nurses and hospitals in improving the patients' safety and the daily operations.
Hypothesis
The tested hypothesis was that the nursing rounds conducted at regular intervals on medical-surgical, surgical and medical units by nurses that perform predefined set of actions will reduce the use of call light by the patient, increase the level of satisfaction and improve the safety of patients which will be measured by frequency of patient falls.
Independent Variable
The independent variable in this study is the nursing rounds that will be conducted on a regular interval of time and the pre-defined set of actions performed by the nurses.
Dependent Variable
The dependent variable in the study will be the use of call light, level of satisfaction and the safety of patients. All these factors are dependent on the nursing rounds that will be conducted after every one-hour or two-hour interval.
Theoretical Framework
The theoretical framework describes the theories and thoughts that are placed together to frame the subject (McGriff, n.d.). In this research, various theories have been identified that highlight the use of call light and how it affects the performance of the nurses regarding their duties and their answering of the call lights.
Population
The population in a research is defined as the group of individuals that are the main focus of this research and it has been conducted to benefit the population (Castillo, 2009). In this study, the research population is the professional nurses in the hospitals that will benefit from the study by ...
