Physician Leadership Development

Leadership is the ability of a person to deal with the circumstances, occurred in the processes with the strength to manage the people by conducting such behavior, which seems inspiring for all. Leader is not the boss, but the personality which enables you to follow him. The quality to lead others makes the person different. Sometimes the quality is God given and sometimes it is developed through certain methods. The leaders understand them well and know what they can do. The inspiring capability of the leader determines his capability to work as the one who make people to understand him. Leader understands the overall strategies going on and makes people understand how to work on them. The person who has the quality of leadership is not the stagnant one; the trait enables him to pursue growth at every moment. Leaders seek improvement in every work they do. They know when to communicate and when to motivate their followers.

Contingency Approach

Contingency approach would be excellent for leaders in the health care services. A physician needs to have a team management style, as well. Health care is the sector, which requires both the work oriented and people oriented leadership at the same time. In addition, a physician also needs to have a transformational approach at the same time with team management style. Physicians need to have a lot of dedication from over all employees working. A physician in the leadership position needs to have the charisma that can inspire the employees to do certain work, which is beyond limitations (Burton, 1997). Leaders in the health care sector have heavy responsibility on their shoulders as the sector is very sensitive in its own way. The changing demographics requires a leadership approach, which is production oriented plus employee oriented as without any productive service a health sector provide there is no point of having it. In the same context, employee's motivation is required because several traumas occur during work and health sector cannot afford to deal with those circumstances in which, employees are unconcerned for the sector. The leader is the one who can deal with all situations coming all the way and this is what required in health care sector.

Transactional Approach

The transactional approach would lead the sector into another level as through this the group of the leader follows him in a way he wants them to. Health sector requires special characters for the leader as well, which includes political know how, as any country would need that. Physicians in the leadership position would not be efficient until the issues are correctly addressed. Physicians need to establish quantitative benchmarks for reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, and fighting HIV, malaria and other diseases. Current reviews of development towards achieving the benchmarks suggest that there have been significant steps onwards (Wolf, 2011).
