Persuade Your Employer for a Pay Raise

Considering the current economic situation everyone is cutting down their expenses. People who are affiliated with the profession, where fixed salary is involved are working very hard to meet ends these days. The solution that I considered to deal with this struggle was to ask my Supervisor for an increment. Even though I knew it won't be easy, yet it was an available option and there was no harm in trying. I am a journalist and as everyone knows that newspapers, websites and magazines are known for their thankless pay structures. My struggling part will make sense to a lot of people who are in this field.

I realized that to achieve the desired goal, a constructive research was required to get a good justification for salary negotiation. The available options that I could adopt could be dropping hints, request my supervisor politely or to pressurize him to increase my pay or I will simply find a job that is offering me a better pay. Adopting any of these options would require an explanation for that I have to create an assessment paper in which all the major questions related to my salary are present: honestly, who do I want a pay rise? Am I undervalued? Is the assessment I have conducted realistic and fair? And would my employer see it the way I see it?

To get an answer to all these questions I conducted a market research, as to where I stand right now and what is the current salary structure for my profession. The comparison with other companies pay scale at my grade has few more benefit and additional dollars, I consider myself genuinely underpaid. Before approaching my employer, I designed the thought process of my supervisor in my mind and went through the employee handbook for salary increment policy. The company has a policy of annual revision of salaries but given the possibility that there is a recommendation from line manager there can be a certain percentage of increase.
