Introduction

The article Personality and character tests by Mark A. May, Hugh Hartshorne and Ruth E. Welty written in 1930 discusses about various personality and character tests which are used to analyze various aspects of human behaviors like aggressiveness, deception, carefulness, persistence, resistance, social perception, social recognition etc. which were developed by previous scholars. It also introduces some new tests and techniques by modifying those previous tests for better results. It also provides some discussion regarding those aspects which cannot be measured quantitatively. The authors have used and assembled various tests and studies by other scholars on various aspects of personality and character within a single category and compared results to check its validity and gave suggestions about its validity (May et al, 1930).

The second article, Refining the relationship between personality and subjective well being by Piers Steel, Joseph Schmidt and Jonas Shultz was written recently in 2008 and focuses on individual measures of personality which includes Openness Personality inventory, Neuroticism and extroversion and some categories of subjective well being like Life satisfaction. The authors take a multivariate approach in which the results indicate that subjective well being and different personality scales are substantively different and the relationship between the two is larger than the previous results indicated. According to the article, previous tests by scholars indicated personality traits as one of the best predictors but their results only showed a moderate relationship because of commensurability where those researchers and scholars grouped substantively distinct measures which they used for analysis, so the authors have addressed and reviewed this problem directly in this article (Steel et al, 2008).
