Integrating Spirituality & Sexuality

The article talks about the dilemma that society faces today and the deconstruction that life has endured at so many different levels. The gender roles have changed and so have the preferences. The author talks about the possibility of a relationship between spirituality and sexuality. She begins with clarifying the misconception that sexuality is all about sex (Marks, 2011). She says that it is more about being able to acknowledge our desires and living to the fullest than mere intimate unison with the gender of choice.

She says that the world is witnessing a paradigm shift. It is people who have repressed sexuality in an attempt to become spiritual but have really given way for more destruction of body and soul. Tending to one's sexuality means looking for the erotic energies that float through our bodies and that govern more than just our sexual desires (Marks, 2011). Hence, by repressing sexuality we are unable to enjoy the different pleasures that life has to offer.

In this age of turmoil and hatred, what we need is a rejuvenation of mind and soul. There are many programs that have been designed to train people to live a better life.

I personally feel that society has changed both for the better and for the worse when it comes to understanding the interference between spirituality and sexuality. On the one hand are those who have strangled their desires in an attempt to become spiritual. And on the other hand there are those who have lost all sense of etiquette and have fallen a prey of the evil that resides within them in the form of desire.

Estranged Bedfellows: Sexual Rights and Reproductive Rights in U.S. Constitutional Law

The author cites here views on the relationship between sexual rights and reproductive rights and how they are not treated as basic human rights by the US law. She says that there is a very close and undeniable link between pregnancy and sex. However, with changes in the sexual orientations of people and the discovery of all the more new sexual orientations, the US law seems to view sexual rights as only emerging from sexual desires of a person (Northup, 2013). She expresses her views that divorcing the sexual rights from the reproductive rights would mean fostering a society that does not approve of heterosexual intercourse.

Even today, majority of pregnancies in the US are the result of heterosexual intercourse and not artificial insemination or vitro fertilization. This means that there is a need to establish a relationship between the two (Northup, 2013). In addition, the World Health Organization and International Planned Parenthood Federation recognize sexual pleasure as the basic human right of every individual. It is only a matter of time when the sexuality of women will not be suppressed for disempowering them.
