Helping others have always made me feel happy. I have always felt that by helping a person in need, you create a special bond with them. I have helped many friends and even strangers, whom I am still in contact with. Seeing the appreciative look and the smile on their faces makes my day. At the end of the day, it always sooth me that I have managed to put I smile on someone's face. This always made me feel that I have done something worthwhile in my life.
People learn a lot from their personal experiences; I too, have learned numerous important, lessons in my life through my experiences. One of such incident left me with this strong urge to help other. One day, I, along with my friends was going to a party, and, on the way, we saw that a large crowd had gathered at the side of the road. We stopped there to investigate, the sight we saw was really horrifying. A young Black man was lying on the road blood soaked with a motor cycle lying nearby. Few men were trying to shift him from the road to the footpath. It was apparent that the man was in a critical condition, however, no one was willing to take him to the hospital, and there was no sign of an ambulance. One of my friends asked some people to shift in our car. We sped to the hospital, hoping against hope that we reach there in time. While he was in the operating room, we called his family, and as there was nothing else we could do, we waited. After a while, we received the news that the man had received serious injuries but will survive.
This accident left a profound impact on me as I realized that if we had not volunteered to help the guy, he could have lost his life. What if we had not taken the long route, what would have happened to the guy? Maybe the ambulance was not able to reach in time. Such thoughts still triggers in my mind, and whenever I see some in need of help, I immediately volunteer whatever services they need. This incident and this will of helping others helped me decide what I want to do in my future. I have decided to become a counselor.
After this incident, I was motivated to help people in any way I can. A month after that incident, I found out that one of my friend's friends was trying to hold a charity event for which she needed volunteers. I, along with my wife immediately volunteered for it. I was surprised to see a lot of people from different ethnicities who have volunteered to help. We divided in groups, and the organizers gave us different tasks to fulfill. It was interesting to work along with people from different backgrounds. I quickly made friends with all of the people there. We helped each other in completing the ...
