Personal Statement

I have travelled the world and I have chosen to collect knowledge from every region I have visited. The world is vast and there are still I believe countless questions that accompany us in everyday life; and these questions need to be answered. Because of this reason, I would like to extend my knowledge and pursue this opportunity as a chance to study Financial Engineering (FE). Proof of my abilities can be observed through the fact that I have won several grant awards during the course of my education. Besides University College London, I have also studied in Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, Oeiras, in the Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen University and the Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon. My education has spanned numerous disciplines pertaining to statistics, analysis, dynamic models, probabilistic models and numerical methods, which have equipped me with key fundamental capabilities to cope with quantitative challenges.

I contributed to the development of the “Statistical Parametric Mapping” (SPM) software - gold-standard statistical paradigm in neuro-imaging data analysis. In addition, I also developed generative models and mean field approximations to characterize ensemble dynamics and expectation maximization algorithms in the context of Bayesian inference of causal hierarchical models. This has allowed me to acquire a comprehension of the numerous intricacies of research and how they are applied to various fields as quantitative finance; a perspective that text books cannot possibly provide.

My passion for the subject I will study can be perceived from the fact that I have exercised my expertise by developing and adapting different mathematical tools to specific needs and numerically implemented them in software, I also tested them through simulations and real data applications.
