Academic History

My name is Hoi Wan “Carrie” Lau and I am 20 years old. I am an International student, as my home country is Hong Kong. Since I entered in South Seattle Community College, I started taking interest in business, economy, management and global consumer market. Therefore, it was during my college when I decided to pursue my studies in the field of management.

When I was in the ninth grade, I heard one of my classmates who spoke English fluently during a morning assembly, just like native speakers. I was shocked; because I did not realize people whose mother tongue is Cantonese could speak English that well. During those days, since I did not speak English that frequently, I used to stutter a bit. I really want to make some enhancements on my English speaking skills. Thus, I started to watch News, documentaries, dramas and so on which were in English Language or with English subtitles.

 

Intended Major and Career Goals

I have chosen to transfer to University of Washington because it gives me the freedom to choose my desired path of career. Moreover, I will get to experience a unique kind of education. This will promote my creativity and sense of independent thinking. At the university, I will learn to work with others as a team, and this will immensely help me in developing practical as well as analytical skills that will help me in attaining global success.

The interest of Management is not restricted to my class room or college life, but it is part of my life. My interest includes management and marketing web pages too. I have found myself very organized and an idea generator which is an important aspect in management. I want to study business in depth. I am an optimist and, I never give up at any point of time. I am equipped with the knowledge and skills of management. I just need a path way of University so; I may be able to get professional education, which will further enhance my knowledge of management, and marketing. I am keen and enthusiastic to learn in the University of Washington. I have found this UW with full of facilities, and the faculty provided in University are equipped with both experience and practical application of management. It would be a pleasure for me to study in this well reputed university. Management and Marketing are highly demanded discipline now and, it will be a tremendous growth in the future. I want to be an eminent part of this discipline and want to take admirable initiative for my country. I will work hard, and continuously learn different things. I want to collaborate with all elegant and difficult people in the industry. I am highly motivated and eager to give my full potential in this field.
