Chapter 1: What do we know about learning?

This chapter gives you the better understanding of how knowledge of the functionality of the brain is important as far as teaching is concerned. When one looks at the overall process of learning, it can be seen that there are many factors that can influence the learning ability and societal changes is one of them. It has to be kept in mind that learning as a process should be looked at differently for every student and individual. The overall environment, and the eventual differences of a person can also have an impact on the learning of an individual. Teacher should be flexible enough to accommodate all these factors and make sure that every student is learning in meaningful manner. The overall functionality of the brain is needed to be understood. Brain get stimulated by something that is unique and novel so class room should be providing unique to the students so they are in a better place to pay attention. Some of the strategies that can be employed by teacher to make sure it is happening are developing the relationship with the students. The overall communication should be effective and it must be made sure that teacher is communicating with the students verbally and non-verbally.

Chapter 2: What do We know about Learners

Learners these days are very different from each other and different treatment must be provided to them. There are students who are actively taking part in all the activity of the class while on the other hand, there are some students that are not really there in the class. The modern methods of learning are also having an influence on learners as learning methods get outdated very easily in today's fast paced world. The learning styles are also discussed in this chapter as visual, auditory and kinaesthetic styles of learning are being discussed. Some learners are able to learn by looking at the virtual cues while on the other hand, some of the learners are in better position to learn if they are receiving some sort of auditory information. Teacher should also keep that in mind that whenever there is any topic, there are some students who might have backhand information about it while on the other hand there might be some students who are not really well versed with the topic.
