Introduction

The purpose of this paper is to expand the boundaries of our knowledge on the topic of Personal Evangelism by discussing some relevant facts and figures. We also discuss the why personal evangelism should be considered by every Christian and how the word of Christ should be spread. Personal evangelism is the direct application of the word of God to the needs of people with whom we have contact. Another simple definition might be: “To preach the faith of Jesus Christ to our neighbors”. Personal evangelism is to talk to a person and announce the good news of salvation and make him see that without God is lost and that his soul will be condemned to hell. Biblically the term gospel has its background in the Old Testament. Psalm 96 echoes this good news: “Proclaim every day the good news of salvation ... Say among the nations: The Lord is King!

Christ came to this world only temporarily. His mission was to come “to seek and to save that which was lost (Coleman, 1997).” To do this, He had to become flesh and dwell among men down the difficult road to Calvary. The New Testament tells us that for three years the Lord Jesus instructed twelve men, his disciples. Those who left the sacred task were entrusted to announce the good news of redemption for all mankind. The primary mission of the men and the church today is to evangelize the world by preaching and teaching the gospel of the New Testamen (McRaney, 2003)t. The last words spoken by Christ to his disciples before leaving this world, was the order of the day for his Church. It was for the Church then and it is for the Church of today. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations ... teaching them to obey everything He have commanded the humanity (Matthew 28:19-20). The church has an obligation and a sacred right to evangelize. Every Christian should be committed to the work of evangelization. We must point out, the evangelization stems from a charisma, a passion for souls and proclaiming the good news of salvation, that is born in the heart to obey God's voice (Westcott. 2003).

Discussion

Although, evangelism is a command. Not all obey the command given by Jesus Christ (Stanford, n.d.). Since evangelization is a complex process that involves the renewal of human nature, the testimony and public proclamation of the message of salvation (Coleman, 1997). This means that the person who evangelizes must give public witness through their actions and words.

Personal evangelism is a command of our Lord Jesus Christ; it is the biblical way to carry the message to anyone who has not received Jesus Christ into his heart, and it is the primary work of the church and the mean of bringing souls to the mission of Christ (Westcott. 2003).
