Personal Essay

I always knew what I wanted to do with my life. I am very precise when it comes to long term commitments and decisions that have the ability to change my life. I moved to the US from Taiwan on my own when I was 14 to further my education. Although, I don't have any family in the US my first language was Taiwanese. My parents argued me one day and told me if I decide to go to the US, I will have to look forward to living on my own this was really tough for me because I was not aware of American culture and norms. My father grew up very poor he even couldn't no foresee himself in education his father was a carpenter and has 6 siblings owing to that his father was not able to pursue his children for education although his mother past away when he was 12, and since then, he has had to work after school, collecting left over foods, and feeding pigs in order to pay for tuition.

He tested into med school, but became a teacher because he could not afford it he was given an ultimatum when I was in the fifth grade. The University he taught at said he will be fired if he did not get his PhD. We came to the US that year. From the day we came to US and that was turning period of my life. In my childhood I was very bright student and always had good grades, my father always reminded me about my willingness to come to the US. I got pathetic test grades because I studied for shorter periods of time and relaxed off more in class. My grades were much better previously and my ...
