Personal Development as a First Line Manager

Introduction

Individuals who engage in personal development want more than a normal life; they aspire to a passionate life. The balances are of less interest than growth. They motivated by a desire for development, not basic needs. They seek not only the well-being, but the "more-being. Instead of a life that would only be "adapted", and that seems almost boring and sterile, they dream of a great life, full of creativity, intensely happy. Mental health occupies less than what called the "perfect health", which hinted at in the figure of superman and expressed by a "big yes to life" (Hewlett, Ann, 2007, p. 37).

The concept of personal development has different meanings depending on whether it used by analysts, developers of techniques New Age, some strands of coaching, educators and labor specialists, such as the International Labor Organization (ILO), which include the goals of higher education and decent work. Personal goals may include the acquisition of exciting and innovative projects or tasks to further develop, in order to keep professionally up to date, more money to earn (Hewlett, Ann, 2007, p. 37).

Of course, target agreements can also be a mix of different goals. It is important not to make too many goals, but to prioritize. Personal objectives and objectives of the organization should be parallel. This is said because of the fact that a person working in an organization hired to provide the organization with the opportunity to achieve the goals that set for the organization. Therefore, working in this direction, an individual working in an organization will only be able to achieve his personal development objectives, if these objectives are parallel and in line of the organizational objectives (deKler, 2007, p. 49-56). If this is not the case and if the personal development objectives of the individual are in a contradicting direction of the organizational objectives, the individual will not be able to achieve his personal development objectives. Furthermore, the individual will not be satisfied with the job he currently engaged in.

The differing interests have to be in the actual target agreement reconciled. They always negotiate in the target setting discussion compromises.
