I this paper I will be considering the article “5 ways to keep your rockstar employees happy” by Daniel Debow Rypple. The article was published in October 2011 and provides examples of deficiencies in people management; Google was primarily discussed by the author. The reason I chose this article was that it is commonly believed that Google is one of the best employers for the world and its employees are satisfied form their job and the management of the organization. It is true that Google provides unmatched benefits, incentives and remuneration packages to it employees; however these are not the only motivators for employees in an organization, which has been argued by Rypple in his article.
Task 2
The problem which can be identified the article in the lack of communication between the top management and the employees. The article highlights that a recent study indicates that employees in Google have a number of incentives, the salary is overwhelming and the employee benefits are exceptional, yet there are some employee who are not motivated to work for the organization. The article includes an example of an employee who enjoys all the benefits that an employee could enjoy in an organization better salary, ease of work and a vast range of employee incentives. However, Jill indicated that she is not sure about her performance and whether she meets the organizational responsibilities and does she contributes to the overall organizational strategy and objectives. Jill indicated that there is a lack of communication between the employees and the top management in the organization. These issues are not limited to the administrative level but also at the lower level (Rypple, 2011, pp. 1).
The problem which I have identified after reading this article about employee at Google is the conceited attitude of the management towards their employees on the floor. My assessment indicates that the top level management is conceited which indicates the centralized control of authority and downward communication in the institution, and the discrepancies in the operations of the factory are the results of this attitude form the management. The most important element highlighted in the article is that employee benefits, incentives and compensation are not the only motivators for employee performance.
Task 3
In his article Rypple identified the problem of communication between the management and the employees at Google. Following are some of the solutions for the identified problem for the management and motivation of employees.
Create a culture of education
Provide regular, consistent feedback
Set time aside for weekly meetings
Manage the work properly
Publicly acknowledge good work
Task 4
The proposed solutions to the identified problems can be discussed under the following heads.
Learning
Creating a culture of education will enable employees to participate in the operational process and learn about the organization from the management. Google culture motivates employees to think about work as natural as any other activities they do. If the individual has self-direction and self-control they will be committed to the goal. Employees can learn and seek ...
