Biography

Henri Paul Gauguin was born in Paris in 1848. His father was Louis Pierre Guillaume Clovis Gauguin (1814-1851), a journalist Republican National. His mother, Aline Chazal (1825-1867) was the daughter of Flora Tristan and therefore, according to some authors, the granddaughter of Simon Bolivar and Theresa Gainsay. She descended from landowners Spanish of South America and, according to legend, a viceroy of Peru (Paul, 1992).

It is part of the 1879-1886 five group exhibitions of the Impressionists. On the sidelines of the Impressionists, Gauguin was probably with Paul Cezanne and Vincent Van Gogh, the painter of the late nineteenth century who had the greatest influence on the movements of the twentieth century painting.
