Across the globe, patient safety is meant to be the responsibility of the pharmacists in assistance of the physicians. Patient safety is placed in the perspective that their overall care would be the concern of a pharmacist. Medical institutions should take the patient's safety as their highest priority. A good culture of patient safety would be a point to avoid, where possible, the emergence of effective adverse effects, promote reporting and learning errors and execute strategies to avoid repetition. In this regard each health care professional should be aware of his responsibilities towards the patients (Schnipper, 2006, p.565). The urge to be treated with immense care and quality is highly in demand as people consider the pharmacists as a massive hope for them or their loved ones. Being a pharmacist or a healthcare professional, they play a crucial role making certain that the patients are provided with the sufficient assistance along with the implementation of the correct usage of medication. Pharmacists are amongst the most accessible healthcare providers who are well trained regarding the proper use of the medicines and drugs. Patients highly trust the recommendations of the pharmacists and implement their suggestions in their sufferings. The pharmacists alone cannot play just a submissive part where they do not take the conscientiousness of improving the health standards of the patients (Schnipper, 2006, p.565). The pharmacists and the physicians play a fundamental role in augmenting the effectiveness of the intact health care structure. It has been verified clinically that pharmacists improve a plenty of results regarding the health of the patients (Shah, 2010, p.3). These improvements include patient safety, quality of life, loyalty and improved drug therapy management. The basic purpose of patient safety should be made well defined to the pharmacist so that he ensures to contribute in an enhanced manner towards the health of the patient (Shah, 2010, p.3). Well trained pharmacists would definitely help in building a safer and improved health system. They should highly focus on the safety of the patients through their expertise in providing medications. In this essay, we would attempt to highlight the notion of Patient safety, its relevance in the English society & how pharmacists & medications play a role in attaining it.
