Introduction

Childhood is that time in our lives when we are free from most responsibilities; we are naive of the ways of the world and take immense pleasure from just playing. Those important behaviors of being a kid don not change very much over the time, but there have been other shifts in the environment of childhood. (Merritt 2010)

The huge change in the past half a century is the parental mentality to childhood. More than ever, parents seem to worry about whether they are bringing their kids up the right way and whether their kids are safe from harm. (Daphna 2000)

There is a common belief that children today are losing out on precious experiences that previous generations had, such as playing outdoors games more rather than using technological devices. Eight out of 10 parents interviewed said they thought that their children were less safe compared to when they were growing up and that is the reason the parents now a days worry too much. The same number still thinks that their childhood today is better, mostly because of prosperity and money. Children are less worried about safety issues than their worried parents. A survey found that children thought that having a loving family and friends were the most important factors for having a good childhood. If we talk about growing periods or stages the norms have been changing with the passage of time. In 80's kids were lucky in a way that there were lots of green spaces around for kicking a football or playing games. (Merritt 2010)
