Teachers, principals and superintendents know that the interest and participation of parents in their child's learning can have a profound effect on the child's success in school. Research shows that when parents and community members are involved in schools, students perform better, increase school attendance and decrease the dropout rate. This is due to the fact that the children are kept under supervision of their well wishers who do not allow them to deviate from their studies that would lead them to a successful life. For this purpose, an educator must develop an action plan for getting the parents involved in the children academic lives.
Discussion
Schools involve parents and members of the community in many ways. Parents help with homework, help community members with events school or make decisions along with teachers and principals about how to improve student achievement. Some participate voluntarily as an adjunct teacher or chaperone for cultural tours or assist with community groups in supporting the school.
Action Plan
Being a part of my school personnel, I look for various opportunities using which I can make the parents of the students get involved and participate in the children's academic and co-curricular activities. Educators have described several ways in which parents' involvement can make happen.
The schools must realize the significance of the involvement of parents and Community in children's lives. Often, schools expect parents and community members to get involved themselves. Many schools are realizing that it is not enough to announce meetings or events in the flyers that go home. Very often, this flyer or event ends crumpled ball in the bottom of the student's backpack. Or, the school staff is confident that parents are the wheel when they visit the school, when in reality very few parents come to School. If a school uses the same old way to involve parents and community, it would obtain the same poor results.
Communicating with parents regularly is an important way to keep them engaged with the school. But more contact with a parent only when a student is in trouble or when they have poor grades is not an effective way.
I would invite all parents to a parental guidance meeting, which is an open meeting for all that would take place at the beginning of the year, in a convenient time. I would make the parents to involve in a developmental and opportune way to review, plan and improve programs associated with the plan and policy of family and community involvement of schools in the city.
There would be regular meetings with the flexible planning throughout the year, such as parent-teacher conferences, association meetings, parent volunteers and mentoring groups. The emphasis of these meetings would be on life skills that promote success with an emphasis on academic achievement.
The importance of communication between school and home must be realized by both the parties. This communication can make occur using several ways including call for conferences, reports to parents, conversations phone, email, the school website, and letters from team ...
