Introduction

Involvement of parent in the educational activities of children is as important in success as the school itself. Parents' involvement in school and at home is crucial for child's success in his or her education. Various researches have demonstrated a positive relation between parental involvement and children's educational success and achievement. This paper entails a description of what is parental involvement, what are the different activities involved, what style of parenting is useful for children and what is the impact of parental involvement on children's success.

Discussion

For the most part, children have two chief mentors in their lives that are teachers and the parents. Parents are the primary mentor till the time when the kid goes to early year's surroundings or is admitted to a school. Parents continue to be a key impact on their children's education all through the school phase and ahead (DFE, 2008, pp.03).

What is parental involvement?

There is no worldwide concord regarding the definition of parental involvement. Parental involvement in its literal sense means participation of parents in child's educationa and academic activities. Parental involvement can take several shapes, from contribution at the school platform as an administrator, facilitating in the classroom or in lunch breaks throughout to reading books and stories to the kid at house, teaching nursery rhymes or songs and helping with homework (DFE, 2008, pp.03).

Parental involvement can be classified into two broad categories (DFE, 2008, pp.03). Involvement of parents in the school and involvement of parents in helping and supporting the child at house. Involvement of parents in school comprises activities such as attending different events held in schools for instance fairs and open days, periodically meeting teachers to find out and discuss the progress of the child, helping in the management of the school & facilitating the teachers in classroom tasks, during picnics and other activities (GTCE, 2006, pp.02)

Involvement of parents at home includes activities such as talking and discussing with the children, developing child's sense of worth, forming educational and societal desires and principles and supervising school activities and assigned tasks such as overseeing homework (GTCE, 2006, pp.02)

Educational success from government's point of view

General certificate for secondary education i.e. GCSE is an examination that is taken by students after the end of their schooling education. It offers an identical framework for evaluation of all students whereby students are graded on all the subjects. The grades vary from A to G grade. Higher the grade and level scored by a student higher is the educational success and achievement of that student on different subjects. The parents who have an understanding of the education system and who are familiarize with the GCSE grading system are likely to contribute more in their child's education which in turn results in better GCSE grades and educational success.
