Introduction

Paraphilias refer to the disorders in which people get sexually aroused by the individuals, objects, or situations which are not sexually arousing for the others (webmd, 2005). These disorders give rise to extreme or abnormal sexual activities and behaviors. Undoubtedly, these disorders create social, personal and career problems for the people. Among various Paraphilias behaviors, exhibitionism, fetishism, frotteurism, pedophilia, sexual sadism, sexual masochism, transvestitism, and voyeurism are the most common. This essay discusses frotteurism, the problems which may be caused due to this disorder in the daily routine, who is more likely to inflicted with this disorder, the possible treatment methods, and the contribution of internet for developing this disorder.

Discussion

The person suffering from the frotteurism feels a strong urge to rub or touch his or her genital organs against the body of some stranger. A person suffering from this disorder is often termed as a “frotteur”. Officially, a person is declared to be a frotteur if he repeats the actions of touching and rubbing the body of non consenting people, at least over the period of six months. The problem becomes serious, as most of the time the victims are unfamiliar, and none consenting; in fact sometimes, the patient tries to have the sexual pleasure without even making the victim know. Most commonly, men aged between (15 and25) suffer from this disorder and they fulfill their desires by touching their genital organ against the body of female in the crowded places, in order to get sexual gratification. However, there is no limit on age of the male patients who may involve in this disorder; often, the older, shy and reserved persons are also found to be involved in frotteurism. The patients of frotteurism may fantasize as if they have a loving or caring relationship with their victim.
