The Case for Cloud Computing

Content Review

Introduction

Cloud computing is an effective way of providing shared services to our resources it is cost efficient and not location specific. In cloud computing, dynamic scalability and virtual resources can be found over the internet. Cloud computing has changed the surface of Information Technology process and its market place. With the introduction of cloud computing a user can use a variety of devices to access the services offered by cloud computing providers.

In this paper, the author Robert L. Grossman has discussed two different types of cloud computing techniques and has further discussed a new strategy of parallel computing. In the end, he has outlined the advantages and disadvantages of cloud computing.

Problems Addressed By the Paper

New advances in the IT world are bringing new challenges with them. As the world is moving towards technological advances, it is facing more and more problems with the advent of new technologies. Cloud Computing is one of the solution to the problems faced by the growing IT world. Some of the problems which this paper addressed are:

Scalability: Scalability addresses the issue of resources that are being provided for a certain application usage. For example if a web application requires more resources in the form of servers and networking hardware then the infrastructure will require the addition of more hardware. This problem is to be kept in mind before setting up the infrastructure and according to your requirement the hardware installation is done. This results in over and under buying of resources. With cloud computing the applications and the work is scaled over several data centers and resources (Grossman, 2009).

Simplicity: Simplicity was the main problem before the advent of cloud computing. Companies owned large data centers and main frames, which took up acres of space within basements of the company offices. They required skilled professionals and technicians to operate and look after them. Before the invention of cloud computation the code written for effective performance and computation on distribution level, was very complex, required a whole grid for their services, a code has to be developed for passing of information between nodes and implementing other specific methods. Many believe that cloud based computed has brought simplicity to the network and storage services (Grossman, 2009).

Pricing: The third problem stated by the author is pricing or expenditure. This is truly a major concern when setting up large networks and data centers for certain businesses. It is a requirement that the cost is moderate, and services are value for money. Cloud computing has provided the companies with so much flexibility in costing and expenditure that the pricing model in cloud computing allows the user to pay just for the services they are using. If they are using 500 computer instances than the company will pay just for them, requirement of capital, not important (Grossman, 2009).
