Abstract

This assignment is based on food security. Food security is emerging as a major economic, social, environmental, and political issue. The assignment is based on an academic point of view. The concept of food security has its origin in the early twentieth century, from World War II when more than half of Europe was devastated and unable to produce food. Food insecurity is a great evil that haunts the poor and vulnerable worldwide. Its dimensions such as national, household and individual, and its relationship with the complex socio-economic and political factors make it an impossible problem to solve without the commitment and action of all national government, local authorities, civil society groups and interested individuals, etc. Every nation must act based on the concept of food security so that every person at all times have physical and economic access to food that it needs. This concept is based on three assumptions: ensuring adequate food production, achieve maximum stability of production and allow everyone access to food available. The paper is divided into nine sections.

Food security is emerging as a major economic, social, environmental, and political issue.

International initiatives are being taken to restore food security. However, effective fight against malnutrition requires the development and implementation of national strategies including support for agriculture and rural development. These solutions should take into account not only the international context, but also country-specific structural factors. Ensuring food security at the level of home and household should become an essential part of development policy of each country (Rosegrant et.al, 2003).
