Introduction
Pain
It is a well known fact that human beings have to go through a number of various situations and circumstances during their course of life, including the pleasant and the unpleasant happenings and conditions. One of the most unpleasant and undesirable condition is that of pain, which could be simply defined as the feeling produced by triggered in the nervous system due to any of the various reasons, and ranges from being sharp to dull, depending upon the medical condition of patient, it should be noticed that being an abstract phenomenon, no particular and definite definition can be presented to highlight the condition, and thus only the symptoms and results of the sensation can be described to make the concept clear (Brevik, et al, 2009, Pp: 142- 150). It is eminent to mention here that pain can occur in a variety of forms and shapes: it could either be constant or occasionally, occur in one particular part of the body or various parts of the body at the same time, including the back, abdomen and the chest. In severe circumstances, pain might extent to cover whole of the body, like the itching of muscles during some of the medical conditions.
It should be noted that pain could be extremely helpful and effective in diagnosing certain medical conditions and diseases: for instance, the non-occurrence of pain lead to the severity of situation without even allowing the patient to know about the situation. In addition, the absence of pain also disallows proper diagnosis and the thus the patient continues to suffer without realizing that he is suffering from certain diseases or any one single disease (Fine, et al, 2010, Pp: 791- 802).
Importance of Pain Management
Pain management could be defined as the branch of medical sciences that uses the interdisciplinary approach to ease the sufferings of the patients and bring about improvements in the quality of life of patients who are suffering from certain medical conditions. Keeping in view the high importance and significance of pain management in saving the lives of patients and providing them with comfort and ease, the process is generally carried out by a team of doctors, including the medical practitioners, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists as well as the nurse practitioners, who work together to ensure provision of utmost facilities and services to the patients.
